About Alon Rosin
Alon Rosin has spent more than 29 years working across institutional trading, derivatives strategy, portfolio management, and client advisory. He is currently Managing Director and Head of US Institutional Equity Derivatives at Oppenheimer & Co., leading the firm’s business and advising buy-side clients on listed equity option strategies and cross-asset solutions.
Rosin’s career has been unique in the sense that he’s always kept one foot on the buy side and one foot on the sell side. He spent nearly a decade working within hedge funds as a portfolio manager and senior trader before spending almost eighteen years running institutional sales and derivatives businesses on Wall Street.
This blend has afforded him a solid practitioner’s perspective of how institutional investors think about risk, positioning, liquidity, and market volatility.
Education and Early Career
Alon graduated Cum Laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1997. This was after he made the Dean’s list earlier in 1995 and 1996. Upon graduation, Alon joined the Sales & Trading training program at Salomon Brothers, which eventually merged into Citigroup.
The environment at that time was marked by fast-moving institutional markets early in his career, which undoubtedly contributed to the systematic decision-making expertise he would later become known for.
Building Experience Across the Buy Side and Sell Side
Rosin’s work experience uniquely positioned him to understand institutional investing from multiple angles. In his buy-side life, he was a portfolio manager and senior trader at such firms as J. Goldman & Co. and Diamondback Capital, where risk management, taking advantage of market opportunities, and living with the consequences of trading decisions were part of everyday life.
That experience also would come in handy when he returned to the sell side, knowing that institutional clients weren’t just counterparties but faced pressures of their own.
Prior to joining Oppenheimer, Rosin was Head of Institutional Sales for Derivatives & Equities, The Americas at BGC Partners. In that position, he worked with institutional investors across the derivatives and equities markets while expanding the firm’s presence in the institutional trading space.
Growing Oppenheimer’s Institutional Derivatives Platform
At Oppenheimer, Rosin has been responsible for expanding the firm’s institutional derivatives capabilities and developing full-service relationships with buy-side firms. He works with institutional clients to manage exposure, assess volatility, and execute sophisticated listed options strategies in all market environments.
One of the recent developments that occurred during his tenure was co-leading the acquisition of Guggenheim’s options desk. The integration added nine professionals to Rosin’s team and increased the team to approximately 20.
This was a meaningful step in building Oppenheimer’s presence within institutional equity derivatives and a commitment to the business Rosin has built.
Rosin has also been a bit of a media sensation for some of his previous market musings when the waters got really rough. In fact, back in April 2025, Rosin raised eyebrows when he announced an apparent market bottom during extreme volatility.
He advised investors to “cover shorts” right at what would mark the DJT “Tariff Tantrum” low in stock prices. The reason that call drew so much attention is that it embodied the kind of conviction and sense of opportunity that most traders gain only through years of bear-market exposure.
Leadership Beyond the Trading Desk
Rosin has also been involved in charitable and community work outside of the finance industry for the past 15 years. He has donated to various charities & related events, as well as philanthropic initiatives, often going unnoticed by the public.
Recently, during a charity poker event benefiting Hillel programs, Rosin donated $21,000 and placed second in the tournament. The event brought together several high-profile participants from the business and entertainment worlds who had competed with him at an elite level before.
Rosin’s outside-of-finance pursuits have also included golf, tennis, padel, skiing, and international travel. Friends and colleagues often describe him as highly competitive but relationship-oriented at a deep level; someone who appreciates getting to know others personally as much as focusing on performance and metrics.
A Career Built on Market Perspective
What sets Rosin apart from most institutional trading pros is not one trade, forecast, or badge. It is the depth of perspective that comes from working through multiple market cycles while operating on both sides of the institutional investing world.
He has consistently kept his eye on the ball when it comes to preparation, market intelligence, and networking. Be it hedge fund risk-taking, spearheading an institutional salesforce, or building out Oppenheimer’s derivatives presence, he understands how to get it done.
Today, as he continues to lead Oppenheimer’s US Institutional Equity Derivatives business, Alon Rosin is not only still charged with helping institutional clients navigate the ever-evolving complexity of markets but also with building a next-generation team positioned for long-term success.
